This was created for my role as Graphic Designer for La Salle University Campus Activities to advertise an event in collaboration with the Philadelphia Flyers. Designed in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

Assets: The mockup of the co-branded Flyers La Salle puck was provided by Flyers Marketing. The photo of Flyers players at the bench was found on @NHLFlyers’ tweet from January 24, 2023. For both images, I removed the background using a layer mask. In the photo of the players, I set the saturation down to -100 on all colors except orange to mimic the style of graphics that the team was using around that time.

Colors: For the background, I used a linear gradient from black to orange (#d24303, which is used for Flyers branding) as an overlay for a starry sky pattern that I commonly used in LNL graphics.

For the footer, I inverted the colors of the starry sky pattern and used a light orange to white linear gradient as an overlay to give the footer some depth while still separating it from the rest of the background.

Most of the text is white aside from a few orange (#D24303) highlights, black on orange text for a note about free SEPTA passes, and the part of the headline mentioning La Salle, which is La Salle Gold (#FFCE00).

Typography: Since I had no info about Flyers brand typography nor any requirements to stick with their style guide, I leaned solely on LNL’s style guide for typography. All of the text is in varying weights of Bebas Neue Pro, aside from “La Salle University Night” and “VS” which are in PT Serif Bold.

Composition: The main challenge was including all the necessary information and assets on an 8.5x11in flyer. Once I put in the title at the top (“Philadelphia Flyers La Salle Night) and the footer and image of the players at the bottom, fitting the rest of the text and assets in felt like a game of Tetris.

I ordered the information based more on visuals than order of importance. The headline (Philadelphia Flyers: La Salle University Night) and the game info (Feb. 9 @ 7pm, etc.) are the two attention grabbers, and from there, the viewers eyes go back up to the paragraph for more information, Lastly, the note about free SEPTA passes blends in a little more but it doesn’t distract from the other information on the flyer. It’s there as a “Hey, if you’re still here, you may be interested in this, too!” type of note.

This was created as spec work for a scrapped event idea, from my role as Graphic Designer for La Salle University Campus Activities. Designed in Adobe Photoshop.

Background: For this flyer design, I took the loading screen graphic from the Nintendo Switch game and copied, pasted, and realigned it several times to create the background.

Typography: I chose a font with a similar feel to the Mario Kart font for the word “Tournament” in the title but used Bebas Neue for the event information to fit with the Late Night La Salle style guide. The blue gradient in “TOURNAMENT” was created with with color picked from the starting line banner asset, and the white and gold of the event info are from the LNL style guide.
